According to the article, “A Few Words About People First Language”, by Kathie Snow, “People First Language puts the person before the disability, and describes what a person has, not who a person is.” To read her full-length article visit http://www.disabilityisnatural.com/explore/people-first-language.

Mrs. Grantham's Striders club will continue on Tuesdays and Thursday 7:30- 8:00, but she is also going to begin offering additional triathlon training on Mondays 7:30- 8:00. On Mondays, students may bring their bikes so that they can practice transitioning to and from their bikes, an important element of the triathlon. Students will also learn about pacing and timing the run on Monday mornings. For students who can ride their bikes home, bikes will be parked in the bike racks; or if parents plan to pick up the bikes they can be stored in Mrs. Grantham's shed. Bikes must be picked up by 3:15 each Monday.
You may also check out our new Destiny page that includes many links you may be missing from Mrs. McRae's computer lab kids page which was on our old school site. Our Spring Book Fair will be held March 2nd-10th. Family Night will be March 3rd, 6- 8 p.m. You won't want to miss this amazing book shopping opportunity or the other exciting activities we have planned.
Dawn Hutchins, a local author, will visit with us that night. She is the author of The Adventures of Agnes and the Martian and Agnes and The Martian's Camping Adventure. Some of our second graders will be performing a silly and "Seussy" song with boom-whackers. Our front office staff will also be service hotdogs, chips, and soda for $3, so come hungry! The first 100 students to arrive at Family Night will receive a small prize, and there will be drawings for bigger prizes throughout the night!
The Book Fair is a fundraiser for our Media Center. In the Fall, we had a packed house for Family Night, and sales for the week long Book Fair were approximately $10,000. These funds were used to purchase a few new listening stations, audiobooks, and of course new books for our library.
If parents can't make it to Family Night, they are welcome to shop anytime from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m., March 2nd-10th. If you decide to shop during school hours, please be sure to check in with the front office. Cash, checks, and major credit cards are accepted. Please make all checks are made payable to KHES.
